Outlook is prompting for a UserID and/or Password

Outlook needs your NMU credentials to log into the mail server and retrieve your information. If it is prompting for your information, it might be due to your stored password being incorrect. Also, if you have changed your password recently, then you would have to updaet the password within Outlook. This is especially true if you see a message that says "Enter Network Password". To verify your password and  that your account is active, go to the page Verify your Account

To check your settings follow these steps:
1. Before starting, restart your computer and ensure that you are connected to the internet.

2. To ensure that your password is correct, open the "File" tab on the ribbon and click "Account Settings"

3. After you click on "Account Settings" there will be a drop down menu where you have to select "Account Settings" again.

4. A box titled "Account Settings" should open. Double click on the @nmu.edu account.

5. You should now see a "Change Account" box. Ensure that all of the settings look like the picture below, but with your NMU UserID and password. Clear your password and re-enter it carefully.

6. Select "More Settings" in the bottom right corner.
7. Click on the "Outgoing Server" tab, and ensure that the settings are exactly like the ones listed below.

8. Click on the "Advanced" tab, and make sure the following settings are correct:
  • Incomming Server (POP3): 995
  • Make sure the option is checked for "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)"
  • Outgoing Server: 587
  • Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS
9. Click "Ok", and select "Next" in the "Change Account" window

10. Once you click next a window labeled "Test Account Settings" will appear. If all the information was entered correctly the status should say completed.
