Return Location & Times Fall and Winter semesters

Return the notebook computer to: Technology Support Services office, room 116 of Harden Hall during normal university work hours.  Computer returns are also accepted at the NMU Police Department 24/7.

Required Return Dates: The immediate return of the notebook computer is required upon Graduation from NMU, if you will not be returning for the next semester, or notification from Asset Management.

Fall and Winter Semesters: The NMU issued notebook computer must be returned no later than the close of business on the Tuesday following commencement exercises.

Summer semester: The notebook computer must be returned no later than the close of business the day grades are due.
Example: If you are registered for classes, leave for the summer or winter break and decide not to return to NMU, the computer's return is due as follows.
  • Registered for Summer and/or Fall classes: Classes are then dropped before the semester begins; the immediate return of the computer is required. For Fall classes dropped during the summer months, late fees will begin seven days after the classes are dropped or close of business the day grades are due. If the computer is being shipped and you want to avoid additional late fees while the computer is in transit, contact Asset Management with the tracking number of the computer package. Late fees will not be assessed while the computer is in transit if a valid tracking number has been provided.
  • Registered for Winter classes: Classes are dropped before the semester begins; the computer is due no later than the first day of the beginning of the Winter semester.

Please follow the return procedures.

Notebook Computers For Summer Continuing Students: Students who attended classes through the Winter semester and have pre-registered for the upcoming Fall semester, no later than the Tuesday when Winter semester grades are due, may continue to use the notebook computer over the summer break. The student must pay their Fall semester tuition by the date indicated on the tuition bill. If tuition is not paid, the notebook computer must be returned by the tuition due date. Late fees will begin the day after the Fall tuition due date. If tuition is not paid and the notebook computer is not returned by the tuition deadline, NMU will begin collection procedures to recover the notebook computer. A student who terminates their connection with the university must return the notebook computer immediately. If a student drops their Fall registration before tuition is due then the notebook computer must be returned immediately. Student's that are in possession of an End-of-Cycle (EOC) model will exchange the EOC notebook computer for a newer model during distribution the week prior to the start of the Fall semester. NOTE: This does not include those students that purchased their EOC notebook computer. Distribution information will be sent via NMU email in mid-August.

Continuing students registered for Summer, but not continuing in Fall: Students who attended classes through the Winter semester that are pre-registered for the upcoming Summer session may continue to us the notebook computer during the Summer session. If a student that took classes in the Summer semester and then decides to continue in the Fall semester and has registered for classes no later than the Tuesday in August that Summer grades are due, may continue to use the notebook computer if not notified of a need to exchange it. If Fall tuition is not paid and the notebook computer is not returned by the tuition deadline, NMU may begin collection procedures to recover the notebook computer. Non-payment of tuition implies a non-return intention and this status is flagged to Asset Management.

New students registered for Summer session only (not continuing in Fall semester): Computers are available for distribution at the Technology Support Services office for NMU students attending classes ONLY during the Summer semester. Call (906) 227-2822 for costs and any additional information.

New students registered for Summer, and planning to continue in the Fall semester:  Notebook computers will be issued from the Technology Support Services office for students who are enrolled for the Summer and Fall semesters. As long as the student’s Fall tuition obligation is met on time, there will be no charge for the summer notebook usage. If the tuition obligation is not met by the tuition due date, the student will be charged the standard late fee charges that occur between the Fall tuition due date and the return of the notebook.
