Notebook Computers for Part-time Students

To define the policy for issuing notebook computers to part-time students
Policy: 

Eligibility:

Undergraduate students registered for fewer than 12 credits. Graduate students registered for fewer than 8 credits. Tuition and fees must be paid or a payment plan selected before a notebook computer is issued. Participation in the TLC notebook computer program is optional for part-time students.

Cost:

If a part-time student participates in the TLC program, an optional fee will be charged to the student’s NMU account when the notebook computer is issued. Current optional fee: $385 per each semester for the fall and winter semester. An optional fee will be charged each semester that the student is registered as a part-time student and has a leased computer issued. The optional fee will not be charged over the summer provided the student is registered for credit earning classes in the following fall semester.

Software:

All software required for a class that is distributed by the TSS office, can be installed on university computers free of charge. NMU's software licenses do not allow for the installation of this software on personally owned computers.

Distribution:

Where: TSS office, located in room 116 in Harden Hall.

When: First day of classes for fall and winter semesters.

Note: Tuition and fees must be paid, or a payment plan selected, before a notebook computer will be issued.

Return of notebook computer:

The notebook computer must be returned in compliance with the computer exchange schedule or if the student is not registered for classes in the following semester. The return deadline date will be emailed to students via their NMU email accounts and will be published on the ACS web site.

Where: TSS office, located in room 116 in Harden Hall or NMU Public Safety, located in the services building on Sugar Loaf Ave. NMU Public Safety is open 24 hours, every day of the week.

Failure to return the notebook computer by the established deadline date will result in a $15.00 per day fee until the computer is returned. NMU may seek civil or criminal prosecution if the computer is not returned on time.
