Selective Release

The Selective Release tool allows the ability to limit the access to specific items in a course by:

  • date
  • course member
  • groups
  • activity completed
Examples of Selective Release include:
  • viewing weekly Learning Modules for the desired week
  • allowing students to take Quiz 2 only if they have taken Quiz 1
  • allowing access to an assignment for a student who has been ill
Selected release can be set either under the Build or Teach tab Items linked on the Course Content page (homepage) can hold a selective release Items under certain WebCT tools can hold a selective release. These tools include:
  • Assessments
  • Assignments
  • Discussions
  • Learning Modules
  • Media Library
  • Syllabus
  • Web Links
To set Selective Release to an item go to the tool and click the action link (down arrow) to the right of the specific item. Click the appropriate button for the type of criteria you wish
  • Add Date Criteria - release or remove the item by a specific date
    (NOTE: for Assessments and Assignments only use this option if you have NOT set dates in the Edit Properties area)
  • Add Member Criteria - release or remove the item to specified members of the class
  • Add Group Criteria - release or remove the item to specified groups in the class
  • Add Grade Book Criteria - release the item if a specified grade has been achieved from another gradable item

More than one criteria can be added to an item with the use the and/or options for specifics.
