Respondus LockDown Browser
The LockDown Browser produced by Respondus is an Internet browser allowing students to log into a "secured" on-line environment to take assessments (tests). Secured refers to once logged into an assessment, the student cannot "surf" to any other areas on the Internet, cannot print or copy/paste the assessment. To set an assessment to use Respondus LockDown Browser:

Log into desired course and under the Build or Teach tab click Assessments.

Click the down arrow beside the desired assessment, scroll to and click Edit Properties.

Go to and click Security Settings.

Type a password in the Proctor password box (the password will be case sensitive).

Click to check the box beside Browser Restriction.

Click Save.

Any student attempting to take this assessment will only be able to access it if they are using Respondus LockDown Browser.
Respondus LockDown Browser is a program that must be downloaded to the student's local computer. It can be downloaded from Academic Computing's website at:
To use Respondus LockDown Browser:
Windows
- Click the Start button on your computer
- Scroll to All Programs, Respondus, and click LockDown Browser
- Follow the onscreen directions for any updates or guidance to close conflicting programs
- Log-in to WebCT
- Click the appropriate course
- Once in the course, select the appropriate assessment
- Type the password
- Click Begin Assessment
- Complete the Assessment
- Click Finish
- Follow the onscreen directions.
To exit the LockDown Browser:
- Click the "i" link at the top of the screen.
- Click the Proctor Options button.
- Type done in the Exit Password box.
- Click OK.
MAC
- Double-click the hard drive icon
- Click Applications, scroll to and click Lockdown Browser
- Log-in to WebCT
- Click the appropriate course
- Once in the course, select the appropriate assessment
- Type the password
- Click Begin Assessment
- Complete the Assessment
- Click Finish
- Follow the onscreen directions
To exit the LockDown Browser:
- Click the "i" link at the top of the screen.
- Click the Proctor Options button.
- Type done in the Exit Password box.
- Click OK.
