Grade Book

Under the Teach tab, Instructor Tools, the Grade Book is a web-based spreadsheet containing course members.

  • Names (first and last)
  • User ID
  • Role
The Grade Book provides a method for automatically recording grades from:
  • Assessments
  • Assignments
  • Discussions
Additional columns can be created for gradable activities outside of WebCT. Calculating columns may be used to formulate the course grade for all the students.The student roster in the Grade Book is updated every night.A red circle with a white X inside will appear by the last name of all students who have withdrawn from the class.The Grade Book has many features which include:Create Column - to create a new column in the Grade Book. Types of columns include:
  • Alphanumeric
  • Calculated
  • Letter Grade
  • Numeric
  • Selection List
  • Text
  • Grading Form

Enroll Members - item not used at NMU since rosters are automatically updated each night

Import from Spreadsheet - a CSV (comma separated value) or tab separated spreadsheet can be imported from a local computer into the Grade Book. ( The User ID column is the matching mechanism from the spreadsheet to the Grade Book so that column must appear in the imported spreadsheet.)

Reorder Columns - provides a method of showing/hiding specific columns and allowing adjustments the order of the columns.

Grade Book Options - which include:

  • Column Setting - adjusting all settings to a specific columns
  • Unfreezing Columns - the Last Name and First Name columns can be frozen to allow for quick reference to specific scores
  • Find Members - to locate a specific student(s) in the course.
  • Show All Members - to view all students who are currently enrolled as well as students who have withdrawn
  • Show/Hide Unenrolled Member Data
  • View Audit History - to view all overwritten grades and comments (Comments are the instructor only.)

Send Mail - an WebCT e-mail message can be sent to a student(s) from the Grade Book

Export to Spreadsheet - a CSV file can be downloaded to a local computer

Unenroll - the option to remove students who have withdrawn from the course out of the Grade Book
