Chat

The Chat tool functions under the Build, Teach, and Student View tabs allowing for live typing conversations among the instructor and the students in the class. The instructor may create as many chat rooms as desired. Students may use the chat rooms without the instructor being present. The names of the chat rooms may be changed by the instructor. Click the action link (down arrow to the right of the name of the room), scroll to and click Edit Properties. Any or all chat rooms can be logged.The Chat can include a "Whiteboard" (a drawing board).The Whiteboard cannot be logged but the images can be saved as a file.To use chat, click to open a room:

  • In the room 3 boxes will appear, 2 on the left and one on the right.
  • The top left box is the running log of the chat.
  • The bottom left box will display your message as you type it.
  • The box on the right will display the names of the individuals participating in the chat.

A private message may be sent to an individual by clicking their name in the list. Once the name it is highlighted, then type your message and only that individual will receive it. Click the name again to toggle off the private chat function. A "Hand-Raise Mode" is available for instructors to use if there is a need for organizing comments. If students wish to comment, then they can click the raise hand button. A number will appear by the student's name on the Participant List. The number indicates which order the students raised their hands. Use the Pass Microphone/Pen button to pass the mic from student to student.Chat logs may be viewed by clicking the action link (down arrow to the right of the name of the room), scroll to and click View Log.
