Creating Quizzes from a Text Formatted Document

Multiple choice quizzes may be created using Microsoft Word as long as the specific format is followed (see below).
E-mail the file as an attachment to webct@nmu.edu.
The CITE staff will then take the .doc or .docx file and then loaded into the specified WebCT course using a phaser program.  An example of the needed format is listed below:

Example:

01. The capitol of the United States is
a. Atlanta
b. Baltimore
c. Richmond
*d. Washington D.C.

02. The president of NMU is
a. George Bush
b. Uncle Sam
*c. Les Wong
d. Robert Redford The format includes:

  • No auto format in Word, all lines must be left justified.
  • No line space after the question text.
  • An asterisk " * " before the identifier for the correct answer.
  • Only 1 line space between questions.

Complete the quizform if you need assistance in setting up an assessment. Click here to access the quizform.

Final Tip in creating assessments:

Consider offering a "practice quiz" for students to use.
The CITE has created one and will be happy to load it into your course for you.
To request this practice quiz e-mail your request to webct@nmu.edu.
