Personalizing Chrome

↵Google Chrome is an internet browser that allows the user to use many advanced features, including bookmarks, add-ons, themes, and more. Signing in to Chrome will link your settings to your Google account, thus allowing you to use the settings on any computer. This article will guide you through some of these personalization options.

Choosing tabs that open with Chrome

  1. Select the options button in the upper right corner of Chrome. Choose "More Tools" from the drop-down menu, which should open a new tab.

  2. Near the top of the page, you will see a section titled "On startup". Select "Open a specific page or set of pages", and the click "Set pages" in blue.

  3. A window should pop up. You can highlight over a page and click the "x" to remove it or type the URL to add a new page. When finished, select "OK" and Chrome will now start with these tabs open.

Managing add-ons

  1. Select the options button in the upper right corner of Chrome. Choose "Settings" from the drop-down menu, which will open the settings tab. 

  2. On the left side margin, select "Extensions" to see the extensions page.
  3. From here you can check or uncheck to enable or disable extensions. Scroll to the bottom to see the option "Get more extensions" to open a new tab.

  4. On this page you can use the "Search the store" field to find an extension.

  5. Once you have found the extension you would like to install, you can select the blue "+" button to install automatically. 

Changing the theme

  1. Select the options button in the upper right corner of Chrome. Choose "Settings" from the drop-down menu, which will open the settings tab. 
  2. On the left side margin, select "Extensions" to see the extensions page, then scroll down to click "Get more extensions" as in the section above.
  3. In the left margin on the extensions page, scroll to and select "Themes"

  4. You should now be able to see a page with available themes. Hover over a theme to see the blue button with a white paintbrush (this will also show the price, which is usually "free"). Select the button to install. 

Creating bookmarks

  1. To create a bookmark in Chrome, simply select the star button to the right of the URL bar, turning it gold.

  2. To access saved bookmarks, select the settings button and hover over "Bookmarks" in the drop-down menu. You can browse bookmarks from there.
