Notebook Computers for Students (Off-Campus/Web Classes)

Applicability: 
NMU students registered for classes that meet off the NMU campus or are conducted as On-line Web-based classes.
Purpose: 
To define the policy for issuing notebook computers to students registered for off-campus and Web-based classes.
Policy: 

Eligibility:

NMU students registered for off-campus or Web-based classes. Definition of an off-campus or Web-based student is as follows: any student registered for classes where 100% of the total number of registered credits meet off-campus or are conducted as an Online Web-based class. Participation in the TLC computer notebook program is optional for off-campus or Web-based students. Tuition and fees must be paid or a payment plan selected before a notebook computer is issued.

Cost:

Tuition and fees for off-campus and Web-based courses.

An optional fee will be charged to the student’s NMU account when the notebook computer is issued. Current optional fee: $385 per semester. An optional fee will be charged each semester that the student is registered for classes part-time or is web-based and has a leased computer issued. The optional fee will not be charged over the summer provided the student is registered for credit earning classes in the following fall semester.

Off-campus students who participate in the TLC notebook computer program and who reside outside the Marquette region may request that the notebook computer be shipped to them. A shipping fee of $25.00 will be charged.

Distribution:

Where: TSS office, located in room 116 in Harden Hall.

When: Notice will be sent to each students NMU email account with information regarding notebook distribution dates and times.

Note: Tuition and fees must be paid or a payment plan selected before a notebook computer will be issued.

Return of notebook computer:

The notebook computer must be returned in compliance with the computer exchange schedule or if notice is received from the Asset Management Department. The return deadline date will be emailed to students via their NMU email.

Where: TSS office, located in room 116 in Harden Hall or the NMU Police Department located in the Services Building on Sugar Loaf Avenue. The NMU Police Department is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Students who cannot return the notebook computer in person are responsible for insured shipping costs.

Failure to return the notebook computer by the established deadline date will result in a $15.00 per day fee until the computer is returned. NMU may seek civil or criminal prosecution if the computer is not returned on time.
