The Center for Instructional Technology in Education (CITE) is a resource center where faculty can go to learn about, experiment with, and get advice and assistance with a variety of instructional technology tools. The CITE may be best known as the place to get assistance with NMU's course management system, WebCT. It is also a "faculty sandbox" for a variety of other hardware and software that can be used to enhance teaching and learning.

Have an idea for using technology in your course but aren't sure how to make it happen? We'd like to help you figure it out. Looking for an idea? Come by and we'll brainstorm with you! Appointments are not necessary; please stop by at your convenience. However, if you want to consult with a non-student staff member you may want to call ahead to check on availability.

We are in the process of updating our web site. Please bear with us as we get (re)organized. See the IDTM home page for links to additional resources.

Staff

The CITE is staffed by IDTM Director Matt Smock, Instructional Technologist Tom Gillespie, and several student consultants.

WebCT Services

In addition to providing hands-on assistance to faculty, CITE staff also provide limited course building services. These include:

  • Loading assessments (quizzes and exams) into the course management system.

A minimum of one week's notice prior to the exam date is required. For mid-term and final exams, two weeks' notice is requested. Faculty are responsible for verifying the content of the posted assessments prior to the exam date.

  • Adding content and links provided by faculty to their courses.

Note: All copyrighted content must go through the reserves process, managed by the Olson Library, before it can be placed online.

Software and Hardware

Faculty can bring their own laptops to the CITE or use one of the CITE’s four powerful multimedia PC workstations. Software and hardware available in the CITE includes:

  • Dreamweaver web page editor
  • Camtasia Studio screen recording tool for recording presentations and demonstrations with optional sound and video
  • Graphics tools, including Fireworks, Illustrator, Painter, Photoshop, Acid Pro, and Eye Candy
  • Interactive multimedia packages, including Adobe Flash and Director MX
